Tips on Going to Events Alone

Hi babes,

The influencer industry can be so much, but it can also be daunting. One of the fun parts is going to brand events! Events are a great way to network and build connections with brands and other creators, but what if you have no one to go with? Here are some tips and tricks for going to events alone…

Listen to the podcast episode HERE

  1. What could possibly go wrong?

    1. This is part of the job! You’re doing your job and you’re doing great

    2. The first one will always be the scariest, but it gets easier

    3. Realize that the majority of the people in this industry are really sweet + social

    4. If someone is rude, it says more about them than about you !!!

    5. Reference our mantras episode

  2. Post on your close friends list (or main) + see if anyone is going

    1. Maybe someone else got this invite, was too scared to go alone, then saw you post about it

    2. Good way to create new friendships

    3. Usually you get a plus one, if not you can always ask. Brands tend to be pretty lenient on this unless they outwardly say on invite no plus ones

  3. Pep talk yourself up in the car!

    1. Listen to your fave music on the way there

    2. Create a playlist to pump you up

    3. Listen to motivating podcasts

    4. Be your own hype woman

    5. You deserve a seat at the table - that’s literally why you were invited

  4. If you don’t know anyone at the event, look for the brand contact who invited you to talk to at the event

    1. Networking is one of the biggest parts of our jobs

    2. Always super sweet and love to meet their influencers IRL

    3. They can intro you to girls

    4. You’ll also build your relationship with them by doing this. We always make sure to say hi and talk to the brand contacts at events

  5. Remember you don’t have to stay for the whole event

    1. It’s not a requirement to stay for the full event, you can always leave if you’re feeling uncomfortable – at least you showed up!!!

    2. BUT we recommend challenging yourself to stay a bit longer even if you’re feeling uncomfy in the beginning.

    3. Set goals for yourself for the event (ex: say hi to 3 girls, stay for at least 30 mins, etc.)

  6. If you recognize someone at the event because you follow them, go say hi!!!

    1. Everyone loves feeling seen

    2. We LOVE when people do this, makes our day and vice versa

    3. Easiest way to create new connections + friendships

    4. Creating more familiar friendly faces at events with give you more confidence that you will probably know someone at events down the line

  7. It’s like the gym- you’ll always feel so much better that you went!

    1. We have never really regretted going to an event

    2. You’ll be proud of yourself / feel accomplished / want to go to more events

    3. We have created connections by going to even the smallest/most random events that have turned into paid opportunities, good friends, strong brand relationships,  etc.

Hopefully these tips help motivate you or give you a little insight on how events can be and what to expect. They are such great opportunities that if you can go, it’s definitely worth it. We like to say “everything you’ve ever wanted is on the other side of fear” and this is a perfect example. If you have any questions or tips you want to share, leave them in the comments below!

Xx, Allysa
