Tips on Rebranding: Changing and Evolving with your Brand Over Time
Hi babes,
Rebranding can be scary, so I wanted to share a few tips on how I’ve done it over the years. Sometimes we feel like we have to stick with one theme, but forget overtime as we evolve, our style, branding, aesthetics, preferences will evolve too… and that’s ok!
Listen to the podcast episode HERE
Here’s a quick look of how my Instagram has looked over the years:
Heavy preset era
Muted preset era
Colorful era
Bright Neutral era
Moody Neutral era (my current aesthetic and favorite)
Tips on Changing your aesthetic, niche, handle, etc
Overall rebranding tips (company/blog):
Hire a graphic designer!
Get a logo, color palette to keep things cohesive for a blog
Graphic designers can help put this together for you
Figure these things out for your personal aesthetic in general
What are you excited to shoot? What’s your audience loving in your content? Go where you feel most excited!
Changing your aesthetic (style, IG, etc)
I’ve done this MANY times (see above)
IG back in the day: heavy presets, bright colors, lots of editing
Travel content was popping off! Especially Greece
A: I’ve changed my aesthetic about 3x
Bright preset, colorful but toned down, neutrals and happy
Your audience will change a little, but not too drastically? Depends how much you change your aesthetic if it’s gradual or a 180
Focus on what makes you happy and not what everyone else is doing
People can tell when you’re forcing something and you will lose authenticity
Changing your niche
This is probably the hardest!!
You will be targeting a whole new audience
May consider starting a new account depending on how big you are at the time
You will go through a phase of losing followers who are not interested in your new niche
This is OK and is good because you don’t want inactive accounts that won’t engage with your content bc it will hurt your engagement in the long run
Be OK with losing follower and focus on growing a new, engaged audience
There’s no time frame of how long this can take
You will definitely need patience during the process
IG is the long game — Don’t forget!!
Engage with other creators with a similar niche
Changing your handle
Some people decide to do this
It happens over time and you might want to change it as you evolve
A: allysa_noel (personal) to fashionablysurfed (blogger theme) to allysa.larson (current)
I personally decided to do this because my theme and content focus changed and I wanted people to be able to relate to what I’m currently doing and I still love the beach, it’s just not relevant to my content so I wanted to make sure my audience and brands could find me
Hold your old handle with a separate account
Just incase brands or followers go to find you there you can redirect to your new handle
Protects your brand
Not much will change with this!
People will notice, especially OG followers who have been with you your entire journey
Do what feels right - only you will know if you should change your handle
If you’re considering a rebrand, hopefully these tips help inspire you to do what feels best for you! Sometimes it’s not an easy decision because you don’t know how your audience is going to react. From my experience, I am so much happier with the rebrand the resonates with me most and I feel like my audience did fluctuate a little bit, but not by much.
Let me know your thoughts in the comments below!
Xx, Allysa
